(INDIANAPOLIS) APRIL 5, 2010 – Senate President Pro Tempore David Long announced today Senate Republican leaders have endorsed John Waterman (R-Shelburn) for reelection in Indiana Senate District 39.
“John Waterman is a valued member of our caucus who is a strong voice for Southwest Indiana and Senate District 39 at the Statehouse,” Long said. “His tireless efforts on behalf of his constituents and our state have helped create jobs, improve our economy and protect the safety of all Hoosiers. I encourage the voters in District 39 to support John at the polls on May 4.”
Waterman is dedicated to promoting the expansion of overseas investment in Indiana and has worked extensively with Taiwan, who last year signed an agreement to purchase $3.5 billion worth of corn and soybeans from Hoosier farmers. In addition, he has been very involved in helping new local companies get started, including American Pellet Supply in Sullivan County and Paragon Force in Greene County.
A strong proponent of traditional Hoosier values, Waterman, the former Sullivan County Sheriff, has authored legislation to crack down on sex offenders and protect the rights of gun owners, the sanctity of traditional marriage and the lives of the unborn. This year he co-authored “Drew’s Law” which amends current statute regarding involuntary manslaughter to classify the killing of a fetus as a result of driving drunk a Class D felony.
Waterman serves on several Senate committees including Agriculture and Small Business, Corrections, Criminal and Civil Matters and Natural Resources. He and his wife Cheryl reside in Shelburn with their six children.
