Senator John Waterman has been serving the people of the 39th district as a member of the Indiana State Senate since 1994. He is currently the ranking member of the Governmental Affairs and Interstate Commerce Committee. Senator Waterman also serves as a member on the Agriculture & Small Business Committee, the Criminal & Civil Procedures & Public Policy Committee, the Public Affairs Subcommittee, the Interstate Cooperation Subcommittee, and the Natural Resources Committee
Before being elected to the State Senate, he served as the Sullivan County Sheriff from 1986-1994, during which time he was awarded Lewis Schmidt Law Officer of the Year. Senator Waterman has also received Outstanding Law Officer and the Meritorious Certificate.
Senator John Waterman is very active in his community as a member of the Farmersburg Emmanuel Baptist Church, the Greene County Muzzle Loaders Club, the FOP, the NRA, the Fraternal Order of the Moose, and Gun Owners of America. Currently, he holds a job as an independent businessman and was previously a former owner/operator of a contracting business. Senator Waterman is married to his wife, Cheryl, and is the father to six children. | |
