A true champion of small business, Ron Alting has been recognized as a leader in economic development issues since joining the Indiana State Senate in 1998. His expertise is valued by senators across the state as Economic Development Subcommittee chair. He is also a member of the Economic Development and Technology Committee as well as the Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee.
Outside the Senate, Alting has shown economic development leadership for the National Conference of State Legislators by serving on their Economic Development, Trade and Cultural Affairs Committee. In 2005, he was given the “Small Business Champion Award” by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.
Alting believes education and economic development go hand-in-hand, and has worked hard at supporting and promoting higher education. He has served as ranking member of the Education and Career Development Committee. He is also on the NCSL Education Committee.
But Alting doesn’t just talk about education; he lives it. He is a member of the Community Advisory Board for the Indiana University School of Medicine, Lafayette campus and on the board of directors for the Liberal Arts Alumni Association at Purdue University. Recently, he received the Indiana Association for the Gifted Leadership Award. He also serves on the board of directors for Meals on Wheels, Bright National Bank and the Tippecanoe Arts Federation. | |
