Senator Mike Delph
District 29
In his first term as a member of the Indiana Senate, Mike Delph has made an immediate – and long-lasting – impact.
Delph was a co-author of Senate Enrolled Act 480 – the most comprehensive veterans benefits legislation in a generation. As a member of the United States Army Reserve and Military Officers Association of America, Delph played a key role in assisting with the legislation which protects, rewards and remembers Hoosier veterans in a variety of ways.
He also sponsored a “family leave bill” requiring employers to grant an unpaid military family leave of absence for up to 10 working days to a spouse, parent, grandparent or sibling of a person who is ordered to active military duty. The leave can be taken before the soldiers deployment, during leave and upon demobilization. Employees will be responsible for paying their own benefits while on military family leave.
Delph had the Statehouse stand guard for soldiers in yet a third way by sponsoring Senate Enrolled Act 171. This legislaton protects all Hoosiers – including soldiers serving on federal military bases across Iindiana – from deceptive sales schemes of annuities.
Current law only applies strict sales guidelines to transactions involving customers over the age of 65. Delph’s bill would extend those strict standards to protect all consumers regardless of age. It also requires insurers take into account and discuss not only the details of the annuity contract, but also the customer’s financial situation, possible future financial needs and investment expectations.
Delph’s legislation also includes language that allows the state to successfully prosecute illegal transactions occurring on federal military bases
